據秦漢典籍及《論語‧述而》「加我數年，五十以學易」章的義理分析，認為「加」通「假」，借也；「五十」，係指五年或十年；或大衍之數五十。「學」篆文「斅」，《廣雅》：學，覺也、教也。《康熙字典》：斅，「教」之異體。覺悟也。指「教誨」或「教學」言，即《徐箋》：誨人為學也。「易」不讀「亦」，所指即《周易》。「大過」，非謙言己身過失，指彼時君不君，臣不臣，禮樂盡失之天下大過。本章意即：如果天假我年，或五年，或十年，用以教誨弟子有關《周易》剛柔相濟之德義，那麼或許可以撥反周文疲弊、禮崩樂壞之時弊過患。

According to analysis of the classics from Ching and Han dynasties and Analects "Shu Er": The Master said, "If some years were added to my life, I would give five or ten years to the study of the Yi, and then I might come to be without great faults," the author claims that "加\" is equal to "假\" that means "Borrowing"; "五十" is referred to a long period of time such as five or ten years; "學\", as "斅\" in Seal script, means understanding and teaching in "Guangya". According to the Kangxi Dictionary, "學\" is the variant form of "斅\" that means instruction or teaching. "易\", which means Book of Changes, is not equal to "亦\" which means "also". The great faults don't mean his self-fault. They infer serious social problems that governor and ministers didn't play their roles well which cause the whole society go out of order. This chapter means if some years were added to my life, probably five or ten years, and I use the extra lifetime to teach students the profound content of Book of Changes. I could almost modify the social problems of Chou Dynasty on that time.
