我國救生員證照制度於民國99年2月由行政院體育委員會頒布「救生員授證管理辦法」，經由專家學者及相關人士研討後，重新訂定救生員授證方式，分別針對「游泳池救生員」及「開放性水域救生員」之學術科能力重新審視，並明確訂定術科之基本能力及救援能力標準，經由現況分析後可發現：改善授證單位過多無統一授課內容及授證方式之問題，以及明確劃分救生員種類，訂定檢測能力之標準，規範國內救生員必須擁有之基本認知及救援能力，在未來建議發展救生員薪資保障制度，提升其工作意願，朝向發展救生職業團隊，以團隊合作方式提升救溺率，以及救生員之生命保障，給予國人安心從事游泳活動及水域運動之防護。
