The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different lighting program and stocking density on the behavior of broilers. The experiment is conducted in Environmental Chamber, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. A total of 1080 aged 1-day-old Arbor Acres broiler chickens were randomly allocated into a 3 (lighting program: 24L:0D、16L:8D and 8L:16D) × 4 (stocking density: 22 birds/ m2, 18 birds/ m2, 14 birds/ m2 and 10 birds/ m2) factorial arrangement according to their body weight with 2 replications per treatment. All treatments were provided ad libitum feed and water. Behavior observation was conducted at 1, 14, 28, 42 days of age. Data collection included lying, standing, eating, drinking, scratching, grooming, walking, panting, calling, sand bath, pecking and fighting. The results showed that there had significant interaction between stocking density and lighting period. Group of 22 birds/ m2 with 16L:8D or 8L:16D could improve standing, eating, drinking, scratching, grooming and walking behavior. For stocking density, the frequency of lying would increase while walking decrease when stocking density, lighting period, and age increased. In conclusion, 16L:8D or 8L:16D with high stocking density could improve standing, eating, drinking and walking behavior of broilers.
