行動手機是現代人不可缺少的通訊聯絡工具,而手機的發展,除了技術進步所促成的改變,手機外型設計的創新變化,是自厚重的「大金鋼」演變至今具時尚的配件表徵。本研究蒐集美國專利局分類號D14/138,屬手機外型設計專利範圍,涵蓋1989〜2015年之間的設計專利共5136件,分別由273家企業所擁有。藉由主路徑分析法,從外型設計角度,說明手機外型創新的演進與知識擴散的現象,並以網絡關係方式呈現企業間創新知識連結的關係,進而凸顯特定企業在產業中的角色。研究結果發現,在過去30年來手機外型的變化過程中,芬蘭、美國、韓國、日本、台灣等各國出現於專利網絡的核心,而Nokia、Motorola、SonyEricsson、Samsung、LG等為專利知識網絡中的領導企業。主路徑上顯示手機外型設計及設計知識的演進過程,可分為三個階段:初始階段(1989〜2001年)為新產品多元嘗試期,第二階段(2002〜2011年)呈現多功能發展期,第三階段(2012〜2015年)則進入外型創新變革期。設計從功能取向為主的大型外觀,至張顯個人品味的流行設計元素,代表科技進步與商品設計呈現相互影響而變化,而整體設計知識的網絡也呈現從歐美轉而加入亞洲企業角色的模式,足見後起的亞洲企業中,充分運用設計知識在產品中所增加的價値,進而強化本身在產業中的定位。

英文摘要

Mobile phone has become an inevitable communication tools in this generation. How the phone can evolve from a big heavy outlook to current stylish design rely not only on the technology progress but also how consumers perceive the value of the products. In this study, we aim to investiage the design innovation in mobile phone. Collecting design patents from US Patent Office, we apply main path anlaysis to explore the evoluationaiy development in design innovations. The data includes all de-sign patents belonging to D14/138, covering a period from 1989 to 2015. Total sampie size is 5136 patents, which are owned by 273 firms. We build up the citation matrix and apply main path analysis to explore the design styles in different periods. The citaitons among different firms also helps to explain the relative position in the industrial knoetwledge network. The results show that Finland, U.S., Korea, Japan, and Taiwan have contributed lots of design innovations in the knowledge network. Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and LG play leading roles in the industrial network. The main path shows the three stage evolving path. The first stage (1989-2001) focuses on product innovation, and the multi-functional oriented design ocuurs in the second stage around 2002-2011. The design innovations then focus on outlook innovations at the third stage (2012-2015). Mobile outlookchanges from a large / function-oreinted out-look to a delicated / personal stylish design,which explains the coevolution between technology and product design. In addition, European firms used to be the industrial leader but the role of Asia firms has been emerging in design knowledge network since late 1990s. Increading product value via design innovations helps these Asian firms to find the critical posotioin in the industry.
