為了解性功能礙的病人其血清生化數及荷爾蒙異常之重要性，我們對120個性功能失調的病人做澈底的評估，結果發現百分之九十六的人有官質上的問題，而百分之四有心理上之問題。在本研究中當中因下視丘－腦下垂體及性腺所造成之障礙其機率約百分之十一點七。另外約有百分之八點三、五點八及五之病人分別有膽固醇、三酸甘油酯及血糖的異常。所以：基於以上的數據，我們要對性功能失調的病人其內分泌及血液做一合乎經濟效應的評估，應當包括血中男性睪固酮、泌乳素、膽固醇、三酸甘油酯及血糖的檢驗。

To understand the significance of hormonal and biochemical abnormalities in impotent patients, a thorough assessment was conducted of 120 patients with erectile dysfunction. The results showed clearly an organic etiology in 96% and a psychogenic condition in 4% of the patients. The incidence of abnormalities of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in this study was 11.7%. Of the patients 8.3%, 5.8% and 5.0% had an abnormal level of serum cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose, respectively. It is suggested that a cost-effective screening of the endocrine system and blood testing in impotent patients should include testosterone, prolactin, cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose.
