在本回溯性研究裡，收集到三十五位男性不孕症病人，有精索靜脈曲張，同時精液品質較差（精子數目少及活動力不足）。這些病人皆接受精索靜脈高位節紮術，術後追蹤一到六年。百分之六十二（22/35）的病人精液品質獲得進步。而精液數目及活動力有顯著改善（p<0.05）。術後追蹤懷孕率有37%（13/35）。本研究顯示，外科手術治療男性不孕症的經精索脈曲張，有助於增加懷孕機會。

Thirty-five subfertile men with varicocele and poor quality of semen (oligozoospermia and oligoasthenospermia) were enrolled in this retrospective study. These patients received high ligation of the spermatic vein and were followed for one to six years. Twenty-two patients (62%) showed an improved semen quality after operation. Sperm count and motility increased significantly (p<0.05). The total pregnancy rate was 37% (13/35) after surgery. The results implied that surgical repair of varicocele increased the chance of the ability to fertilize.
