英文摘要

This article mainly describes the rise of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the spirit of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Movement, and the missionary practice of the early missionaries in Chinese society in the late Qing Dynasty. At the end of the 19th century, at the beginning of the establishment of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in the United States, A.B. Simpson, who was influenced by the evangelical movement, was committed to promote the mission of spreading the gospel, establish an inter-denominational group, which is consisted by a group of evangelical believers of similar purpose and interests, developing towards the purpose of spreading the gospel. In the early missionary plan of the Christian and Missionary Alliance overseas, missionary activities to China have been drawn up. Therefore, this article reproduces the first two years’ missionary activities of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in China, examines the adaptation period in the missionary process, presents their educational activities from the situation of Chinese politics and local society, and outlines how the “adaptation strategies” of missionaries in China, practice the missionary spirit of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Missionary activities of the missionaries at the bottom of the society fulfilled the missionary purpose of the Christian and Missionary Alliance at the “Unreached People” part, especially paying more attention on pagan world and poor areas, which reflects the Christian and Missionary Alliance’s original idea and the goal of “Gospel saves souls”. Therefore, the Chinese mission society of the Christian and Missionary Alliance adapted to the local society in its early stage, preached to marginalized groups, demonstrating the basic belief of “Gospel First”, which constituted the establishment of missionary identity and laid the foundation for the missionary and educational work of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in China.
