The purpose of this paper is to discuss the heated controversy related to counseling among American evangelical churches and global Christian churches for about half century- the debate between Christian counseling (integration) and Biblical counseling (Nouthetic counseling). What are their differences? Although the two camps have been debating back and forth or even attacking each other quite a lot, are they really as different as they claim to be? If they are, are they different in foundational issues or are they simply different in peripheral issues, like different spots spread out in the same spectrum? With the advancement within each camp, did their differences increase or decrease? What does this development mean to we Chinese churches? Is it possible for these two camps to work together? Will that bring the greatest good to the churches? Do they each have different function or play a different role to churches and the overall society? By examining three key events and by reviewing the literature, the author found that the two camps still had essential differences although their differences have been obviously decreased. Besides looking into these differences, this article also discusses the changes made by the two camps during these years and the meaning and impact of these changes on the churches and Christians in Taiwan. Finally, the paper also gives suggestions on how these two camps can relate to each other in the future.
