英文摘要

This study examines gender difference and age distribution in relation to construction industry fatalities using 1061 injury reports obtained from case reports published by the Taiwan Council of Labor Affairs during 1996-1999. These data were analyzed in terms of gender, age, work experience,
accident type, and injury source. This study found that gender-specific aggregated occupational fatalities were raised throughout this period for male workers. Restated, the female fatality rate is 17.2 per 100,000 workers, a rate exceeded by the male rate of 31.8 per 100,000 workers. However, female workers aged 45 yr and older displayed considerably higher fatality rates. The results also revealed falls as the leading cause of death (59.4% for women and 51.8% for men), and moreover that most accidents occurred during the first year of employment (53.6% for women and 39.3% for men). These data suggest further research is necessary to examine gender-specific work-related injury risks and design injury prevention programs.
