衛星遙攝影像製圖與監測地表及其變遷已成功地被運用在美國新墨西哥州半乾燥氣候區的沙漠化相關研究中。其研究法係利用多時期(Multi-temporal)遙測影像資料，以影像處理技術，將地表的地形、地物擬真呈顯，進而分析時序期(Time series)的變遷(Changes)與效應(Effects)。本文旨在提出其方法論(Methodology)並使能運用於臺灣地區，尚祈多方指教，俾利日後對環境教育、環境保育等相關研究提供實質助益。

Land-cover mapping and monitoring based on mixture modelling has been successfully applied to a desertification research in Southern New Mexico, USA. The application of this approach to multi-date images suggests that it can identify the patterns and the extent of extreme change and thus shows potential for mapping and monitoring of rangeland resources. This research aims to illustrate its methodology, which, hopefully, can also be used in Taiwan area.
