The health care worker is at substantial risk of medical hazards. By analyzing theoccupational health hazard records from a medical center in the past 6 years, we discovered thatneedlestick injury ranked as the highest threat to the health care workers' health. This studyassesses the risk of infection among health care workers from needlestick injuries, and furtheranalyzes the effectiveness of the former precautionary policy of hepatitis B vaccinationadministration among health care workers. Based on this analysis, it is discovered that after manyyears of employee hepatitis B vaccination, no Hepatitis B Immune Globulin usage was needed forthe health care workers from year 2002 to year 2004. This data displays the additional benefit ofreducing unnecessary medical expenditure and the risk associated with contracting heptatis Bfrom needlestick injuries is also diminished.
