1920 年代開始，臺灣研究者逐漸投入民間文學蒐集的工作，並以建構臺灣主體性為立場。鄭坤五於1927 年將臺灣民間褒歌37 首詳加點評加註，命為〈臺灣國風〉，發表於《臺灣藝苑》，企圖提升臺灣歌謠的文化主體。若以文體學的研究路徑來看，文體的形成環境與功能，會限制文體特徵與風格的導向，因此褒歌大量情慾書寫的內容，便不必然與民族建構、文化傳承有關。再從褒歌的形成環境與歌者語境立場來看，褒歌的主要功能亦非傳情達意給某個對象，較多的層面應該是做為一種勞動文學，作為一個集體環境中調節氣氛的角色。目前研究，少有論述「臺灣褒歌」之專著，這與民間褒歌「對口合唱」條件的模糊與文本的缺少有關。因此在研究的方法上，多針對「臺灣褒歌」的情愛書寫內容分類為主，但對於褒歌何以具有如此龐大的情歌書寫說明略顯薄弱，可謂是現今學界提及褒歌必然與情愛書寫進行聯想的一脈思路。故本研究以文體學研究的路徑出發，利用褒歌「對口合唱」的文體特色，探討情慾書寫的內容從口傳的即興創作，到案頭文學的產出有著何種面向的思考。
