Origen’s philosophical theology has been impacted by Platonic philosophy, and his theory of mind is fundamental to his epistemology and doctrine of the will. It is essential to understand Origen’s doctrine of mind before we discuss the latter two theories. This thesis begins with Plato’s philosophy gradually processing into Origen’s doctrine of mind; and it is based upon his work, On First Principles, to investigate his theory of mind respectively. The first section inquires into the relationship between the mind and hypostases; the second considers the association between the mind and the will, thereby showing the triple connection between knowledge, will and faith.
