Two kinds of activated carbon, powder and granular, are used for syrupdecolorization by Taiwan Sugar factories. The powder activated carbon should be usedalong with filter aid during filtering, while the spent granular activated carbon could beregenerated by heating. The decolorization of powder activated carbon is about75%compared with the 85~90% of granular activated carbon. Although the equipment costof the latter process is 13.2 times that of the former one, the recovery is 3 years.
