　　　　　This study was designed to elaborate production processes performedcurrently in Taipei Blood Center (TBC) and to coordinate the input material andoutput (whole blood and different type of blood component) relationship, thus socalled production functions could be developed. Twenty-four production functionsand thirteen constraints were clearly defined, and the decision support systemoptimal production software, that utilized linear programming method written inC language was established. The software was user oriented, once the dailyrequired amount, inventory, safe and obsolesecent level of whole blood, and eachblood component were given, the selected processes and operation frequencies ofproduction functions that must be triggered to meet demand at lowest possiblecost could shown. TBC can then allocate manpower and arrange its work scheduleaccordingly.
