本文檢討在我國國家科學會學門劃分中，文化研究作為臺灣政治學門次領域的可能性與可適性。文化研究對身份政治的關切，顯然超越了前此政治學既有議程所涵蓋的範圍，其研究對象的界定與存在型態，更與政治學的個人化研究對象不同。文化研究議程上的研究對象是流動的，進出於各種關於身份的情境，研究對象的流動性引導文化研究者的方法論，使他們不限於研究特定情境之中的行為規律，而更關注不同情境中的身份轉移，一方面是研究對象進出情境，轉移身份的能力，二方面是情境中身份內涵因應研究對象的理解與實踐而變遷的現象，以致於任何看似具有抱束力的行為法，會因為身份的流動或法則的變垂，而出現不可事先決定的發展。由於研究焦點集中於身份政治，故又有方法論上具有與過去不同的主張。文化研究已經不再適宜以跨科際研究來定位，其他政治學既有議程上的次領域，並不能提供身份政治研究任何有效的方法論，而身份政治的研究結果，無所不在地挑戰政治學既存的個種理論，或關於國家、公民、階級的預設，因此又必須是政治學某個次領域方才合理。準此，文化研究成為政治學之次領域，應當已經是一個時間早晚的問題。

　　　　　The literature of cultural studies pertaining to politics and power has exceeded the current research agenda offered by political scientists. On both ontological and epistemological levels, assumptions about humanity and its possibility are different between the cultural studies and mainstream political science. Specifically, new issues centering on citizenship and identity, which the cultural studies tackle most actively, call for new methodology. A nascent epistemic community in this regard is emerging indeed. The paper argues that it is time to recognize the cultural studies as a sub-field in political science in order to facilitate inter action between the cultural studies and political science. Taiwan as a postcolonial society on the tide of globalization is particularly appropriate to take such a move.
