and exciting moments, 3) the addition of imagined actions by the child to retell the story in a more fluent manner, and 4) a preference for concluding the story on a positive end; (B) the characters’ features in the
content the story retold by a child, included: 1) a focus on the main characters of the story, 2) an in-depth description of the main perpetrator, the big bad wolf, 3) the editing into a conversation of content that does not include a conversation between characters, and 4) a concrete description of the characters’ behavior, but a disregard for the characters’ feelings; and (C) the features of the verbal techniques used for retelling the story content, which were: 1) the repeated use of ‘then’ by the child to create a link at turning points in the story, 2) the substitution of characters’ name by ‘a little black cat’, 3) a difficulty to employ abstract adjectives and phrases, and 4) a choice of words influenced by daily experiences to retell the story. In conclusion, this research, using story retelling as a guideline, makes some suggestions to improve children’s narrative skills and for future studies.
