環境監測對於生態觀光地的經營管理相當重要，而社區的參與則是監測計畫是否能存活的關鍵，因此，本研究選取國內外以社區為核心的生態觀光地之個案，比較分析其環境監測模式。分析結果發現，政府、非政府組織與居民在整個環境監測的執行上是密不可分的。政府在資金與技術的支持上，對於監測活動的持續非常關鍵。非政府組織可協助社區設計環境監測計劃，並在初期提供居民技術指導與知識教育，直至社區能獨立執行。至於居民在監測中所扮演的角色，主要有四種：資料提供者、環境保護者、宣傳行銷者、以及策劃者。

Environmental monitoring is very important to the management of ecotourism sites, and community participation is the key to the success of an environmental plan. Thus the research conducted a comparative study of a number of selected community-based environmental monitoring cases. The case studies found that the public sector, NGOs, and residents are interdependent in the implementation of environmental monitoring. The public sector has an important role on the support of finance and techniques, which is the key to environmental monitoring. NGOs can assist communities to set up their environmental monitoring plan, and to provide residents techniques and knowledge. In terms of residents, there are four roles: data providers, environmental protectors, promoters, and planners
