This study investigated the spike timing of the volleyball players with different skill levels at the fourth position. Twenty males from National Hualien University of Education were evenly designated to four groups according to skill levels: primary hitters of the university team, non-primary hitters of the university team, hitters of the departmental team, and inexperienced hitters. A camera (60Hz) was used to record the actions of Volleyball spiking. The kinematical parameters were analyzed by using the Kwon 3D system. One-way ANOVA was used to test the ‘variables. The statistical significant level was set at α= .05. The main findings of this study were: First, there were no significant differences among groups in the perception of timing of spiking described by tau(τ). Second, there were significant differences in the timing of the initial jump, the height of the ball in the initial jump, the height of the hit point, and the distance of the initial jump to the hitting point as follow. First, the non- primary hitters had the fastest timing of the initial jump in both gender groups, indicating that they might be used to perform the quick attack and did not change their pattern at different positions. Second, the experienced hitters had a higher height of the initial jump compared with the inexperienced hitters in both gender groups, suggesting that the skilled hitters might have more time to adjust their hitting tactics visually. Third, from the analysis of the hitting height, the primary hitters performed a better control of the spiking approach compared to the other groups. Fourth, the primary hitters and the inexperienced hitters had a shorter distance of the initial jump to the hitting point compared with the non-primary hitters.
