Postponement is not a new concept, but most of existing empirical researches are conducted in the Western countries. This study tries to investigate the current status of postponement application across three industries in Greater China (including Mainland China,Hong Kong, and Taiwan) and to assess the effects of some factors (environmental uncertainty,administrative factors, and information systems maturity) on postponement application.Through a questionnaire survey of large manufacturers, we find that postponement application in Greater China is growing and its degree appears to be higher than previous
evidences in the Western regions. Environmental uncertainty, administrative factors, and information system maturity have positive effects on postponement application. The findings of this study may provide another viewpoint that is different from what we are used to seeing in Western studies.
