台灣和新加坡皆屬於海島型國家，也居於重要之地理位置，經濟貿易同樣是國家發展的重點項目，在1970 年代的經濟成就也並列為亞洲四小龍，在教育成就上也都擁有良好之成績，但新加坡今日之發展卻已超越其他四小龍，直向現代化國家邁進。並在三十多年後一躍成為高度現代化的國家，新加坡的成果值得稱許，究竟新加坡這樣一個城市型的小國家，如何能在國際上有如此亮眼的表現且仍在持續發亮中，值得做一深入之探討。
