英文摘要

The rise of China and its implications are multi-dimensional. Together with many other countries surrounding the People's Republic of China (PRC), Taiwan sees this rise from the perspective of its economic opportunities and political challenges. The rise of China might help kick-start a bandwagon effect for countries in Southeast Asia, and even Taiwan. Cooperation rather than confrontation with Beijing has gained the attention of policymakers as a viable option. The factors that will determine the future direction of cross-Strait relations— the rise of China, a divided Taiwan, or a combination of these two— are worthy of careful deliberation. This article also examines Taiwan's response to China's anti-secession law.
