近代奧運會中，『業餘運動精神』(Amateurism)一直是一個論爭的焦 點，對此問題影響最深的人物首推前國際奧會主席布倫達治先生。本文採文獻分析法將布氏在任期內的言論、演說以及學者們的論述作烏研究範圈，探究及評析布氏常餘運動精神的形成背景、思想本質及其功能。產生如下結論:布氏的業餘運動精神思想的形成與個人成長背景及古柏坦思想的影響有闕，在他從事業餘運動的過程中，雖然遇到許多阻力，但都大致保持一致的態度。他的黨餘運動精神本質具有多層正面意義，其涵蓋多面向價值，包括作為教育功能、奧運會成功的理由以及宗教的特性等。他極欲將業餘運動與職業運動劃清界限。然而，就其業餘主張內容相較於奧運會中的現實面而言，確不免屬理想主義實踐的範疇。最後，我們發現，從布氏的業餘思想中，業餘運動是為自身的興趣、自身的目的而從事運動，頗符合今日體育運動社會中所強調的人本主義思潮。

The purpose of this study was to clarify Avery Brundage's notion of Amateurism.A literature study was done on Brundage's speeches， discourses， opinions and of some other scholars. The author examines and analyses Brundage's background and his inner thoughts about Amateurism as part of a study about Amateurism. The following conclusions are below: Brundage's thoughts about Amateurism were related to his personal background and experiences and also to Pierre de Coubertin's thoughts. His inner thought of amateurism contains many positive meanings， it combines many values， which can be functional for education， reasons for successful Olympic Games and the feature of religion. The contents of his Amateurism is often seen as an idealism. At last， we found that his central thought about Amateurismshould be stressed on personal interest and for sports own sake. This matches the nowadays trend for more Humanism in sports.
