The experience of the Paldang Project in Korea, a sustainable farming practice in tapwater source area, is outlined and discussed in terms of objectives, programs, performance, andfuture directions. The project is to provide mutual benefits for farmers and consumers withcollaboration of both groups. Sustainable farming is implemented by reducing chemical inputs forcrop production and applying sawdust fermentation treatment of livestock waste in Paldang tapwater source area. Economic incentives, including agricultural loans at favorable rates and marketoutlets for organic produce, are given to participant farmers. Those financial resources are providedby a joint contribution agreement between National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and SeoulMetropolitan Government. The performance of the Project is realized in terms of more applicationof sustainable farming that brings about preservation of clean tap water, more supply of safeagricultural products, higher farm income, etc. Efficient marketing system for organic produceremains a major task for further development of the Project.
