台灣地區外來亞種與本土亞種環頸雉如何辨識，向來存有爭議，本研究利用形質分析來比較兩者之間的差異，以做為日後判斷的基礎。本研究自野外及養殖場共採集116隻樣本，進行外部形質測量，雄鳥測量體重等16個形質，而雌鳥部分則因性別二型性，雌鳥缺乏頸環、尾羽及腳距等型態特徵，故僅量測9處形質。研究結果顯示，外來亞種樣本不論雌雄在平均體重、頭長、頭寬、中趾長、喙長與喙寬，皆比本土亞種顯著較重或較長，雄鳥部分則另外有爪長與腳距呈現外來亞種較本土亞種平均長的情形。研究最後並以多變量分析之主成份分析，將雌雄的型態特徵各篩選出三個主成份，並以散佈圖分析比較本土與外來亞種樣本在不同主成份間的散佈情形。研究結果發現雄鳥在本土與外來亞種主要的特徵差異有：體重、喙長、喙寬、第十節寬，雌烏部分的主要特徵差異為體重、全頭長、頭寬、喙裂、喙長與喙寬。

Debates occur frequently over the problems of distinguishing the Taiwan native ring-necked pheasant from imported ring-necked pheasant. The purpose of the present study was to establish a discrimination technique of the two groups based on morphological comparisons. We collected 116 samples (56 males and 60 females) with 16 characteristics for male and 9 characteristics for female in this study. Both sexes of the imported ring-necked pheasants have higher mean scores than the native species on the characteristics of weight, length and width of head, length of middle-toe, and length and width of beak. The males of imported ring-necked pheasants have longer ungula and spur comparing with the native males. We conducted principle component analysis and related scatter plots for further comparisons between native and imported groups. The main differences of morphological characteristics between them were weight, length and width of beak, and width of tenth barred on tail for males, whereas they are weight, head length, head width, fissirostral, and length and width of beak for females.
