隨著老年比率及人口數上升，導致失智症人數將逐漸增多，失智症照護已成為世界性關注的議題。當失智症的持續惡化，患者出現認知功能障礙、喪失日常生活能力等問題，常使家庭及社區照顧無法負荷其照護需求，此時接受安養式照護即為常見的照顧選擇方式。有鑑於對失智照護需求之專業人員培育殷切，長庚技術學院特舉辦師生海外長期照護機構見習，以了解美國長期照護之發展，並特別針對失智之安養式照護機構進行相關參訪。本文目的在說明美國失智安養機構照護種類、失智機構空間及環境配置及其照護模式。本校師生藉此機會將此行的所見所聞提供參考，分享美國失智症安養式照護之經驗，期望能提供未來失智症照護環境及服務模式設立之參考。

As the number of patients with dementia rises, there is an increase in international interest in dementia care. Most patients with dementia will eventually require some form of long-term care services, such as assisted living or nursing home, to provide assistance with activities of daily living and to manage cognitive, medical, functional, and behavior problems. To fulfill the unique demand of this population, professional health care providers are needed. Therefore, Chang Gung Institute of
Technology sponsored ten students and two faculties to visit several long-term care facilities in the USA, including the dementia care facility in Michigan. The main purpose of this article was to introduce the type of caring, living space, environment of residential care for dementia in the United States. The individualized and diversity of care may serve as a reference for long- term care policy making in Taiwan.
