《Du Ren Shi》in Mao Gong’s《Classic of Poetry: Minor Odes》to be composed of five stanzas, each with six lines. When the same poem ap-pears in the collected poems 《Poetry of Qi》, 《Poetry of Lu》, 《Poetry by Han》, only four stanzas are present. Early commentators on The Clas-sics pointed out the first stanza of 《Du Ren Shi》 as collected in the received edition of Mao Gong is dissimilar to the rest of the poem, suggesting that it
may be of separate origin. However, besides Mao Gong’s 《The Black
Robes》(《Zi Yi》),《The Commentary of Zuo》, and《The New Books》
(《Xin Shu》) . The author of this paper thus aims to build her argument on the basis of these other appearances of the stanza, bolstered by a recently excavated bamboo slip edition of the《Zi Yi》, revealing the origin of the first stanza of《Du Ren Shi》to be the lost ode.
