八○年代初，黃仁宇遭到解聘以及隨後萬曆十五年付梓暢銷，這段時期可以說是學術生涯的轉捩點，黃仁宇藉由其回憶錄記述了當時心中許多憤懣的情緒，可說是自身的辯白並且闡揚自己的理念的一本書。本文主要藉由閱讀整理黃仁宇作品及其他補充試圖對黃仁宇及其理論做理解與回顧，試圖找出黃仁宇在當代中國學研究中的位置，並且從黃仁宇與中國學社群的對話中，重新檢視當時美國的中國研究社群可能具有的某些問題。

In the early 1980's, Ray Huang lost from his tenure and professorship at State University of New York, New Paltz Branch.However, shortly after that, his masterpiece "1587, A Year of No Significance" was published and widely received positive reviews. The period turned out to be the turning point of his academic career. His memoir, which he started composing the draft then, had on the on hand reflected his upset feelings at the moment, and it had also on the other hand served as his last protest against the China Studies Community in the United States which at the same time conveyed his theorization model of Chinese history. By means of conducting a survey on Huang’s major publications with the assistance of some papers on him, the article strives to construct a different understanding on Huang and his theory and thus relocating Huang in the contemporary China Studies field. Through the process of examining the interaction between Huang and the field, the article seeks to explore the latent problems rooted in the post-war China studies community in a different perspective.
