邪馬台國是否為日本歷史上大和政權的前身？或是有何關係？自古就是日本自我定位的一個重要根源。尤其戰後對於皇國史觀的反動下，本來那個堅信不已的神話起源基礎已經受到質疑。如果現在要重述日本的歷史，那日本這個國家是誰建立的？這個問題就更顯得重要。本文透過日本歷史上關於邪馬台國研究的分析，試圖來瞭解日本人是如何去面對這個問題的？日本唯有透過中國的史料《魏書倭人傳》回過頭來尋找自己的國家起源。探討的範圍由日本大化革新之後的主流觀點，以及江戶時代的國學派，二十世紀初期白鳥庫吉與內藤湖南開啟的邪馬台國爭論，一直到戰後的重要說法等。邪馬台國地理位置與卑彌呼身份的定義，這之間的差別都反映出必須處理與中國關係的心理需要。

If Yamata is the forerunner of Yamato government in Japan’s history?
What is the relationship between Yamata and Yamato? This question was
a major source of Japanese Self-knowledge from past. The myth of
Japan’s origin believed firm before was queried in the reaction of Royal
historical view after WWII in particular. Now, as we rewrite Japan’
history, who established Japan is more important. This paper wants to
find out how Japanese face the question by analyzing the Studies of
Yamata. Japanese only depend the papers（Book of Wei） form China to
trace back Japan’s national origin. The discuss including the major view
of Taika Reform, the Kokugaku’s idea, the argument between Shiratori
Kurakichi and Nait. Torajir., until several major view after WWII. The
difference of Yamata’ location and of Himiko’ role might reflect some
psychologically needs, which must deal with the relationship with China.
