阮元於〈焦氏雕菰樓易學序〉曾云：「江都焦氏，居北湖之濱，下帷十餘年，足不入城市，尤善於取易之經文與卦爻反覆實測之，得所謂旁通者，得所謂相錯者，得所謂時行者，舉六十四卦三百八十四爻，盡驗其往來之迹。于經文之中，而知其所以然，蓋深明乎九數之正負，比例六書之假借轉注，然後使聖人執筆著書之本義，豁然大明於數千年之後。」評價之高，可見焦循易學思想之精妙。而其最特殊的易學理論為「旁通」，故焦氏的「旁通」思想，實有深入研究之必要。根據本文的研究，筆者認為焦循的「旁通」思想，並非僅是對《易》之義蘊的作一表述，而是透過「旁通」強調天人合德境界這一個層面，更由此推演出「性善觀」與「改過遷善」的思想。
