This paper deals with the balanced realization of linear time invariant systems using an one parameter optimization technique through a variational approach . The Hankel norm is established first. As balanced
coordinate vectors are parallel to Hankel singular vectors, a new
algorithm for balanced realization by a newly defined balanced map is obtained without performing the Cholesky factorization to the controllability or observability gramians. A simple example is presented for illustrative purposes
