A model analysis of the evaporating spray is performed using the
stochastic Eulerian-Lagrangian method. The tested problem is a
well-defined benchmark methanol spray investigated experimentally by
McDonell and Samuelsen. It is found that good predictions on the
dispersed-phase properties can be achieved by considering the inlet
conditions of the dispersed-phase fluctuating velocities in the model
simulation. It is also found that the integrating time step used in solving the equation of motion should be sufficiently small to ensure accuracy of the numerical solution. However, due to small values of the local Stokes number in the tested spray, the transient effects of the drag coefficient on the model simulation can be overlooked.
