The application of operational vehicle cabins can be seen in many
areas. Since operational vehicle cabins must always be able to operate
normally under different climates and special occasions, the design of air
conditioning in them is not as easy as that in the car cabin. Special
arrangements of air conditioning are needed to protect the people and
appliances inside the operational vehicle cabin. The objective of this work is to study the effect of solar radiation on the operational vehicle cabin under different climates. The CFD approach was employed to simulate the three-dimensional flow field in the operational vehicle cabin under the influence of solar radiation. This study focused on the effect of
air-conditioning on the flow field with the solar radiation using the finite volume SIMPLE solver, including RNG k-ε turbulence model and solar
radiation model. The study results show the simulations of the most
comfortable temperature in the operational vehicle cabin and the
temperature variation of the time-dependent cabin air-conditioning
operation under the outside radiation effect.
