Background and Purpose: Recently, Developmental Coordination Disorder (OCD) has been an essential topic in the fields of motor development of pediatrics, physical therapy, and adapted physical activity in the world. However, the characteristics of the DCD group in Taiwan have seldom been examined. The purpose of this study was to use the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (Movement ABC) to evaluate children and determine whether they have movement difficulties in Taiwan, and also to compare age and gender differences in the prevalence of motor coordination. Methods: Five hundreds and ninty-seven children (316 boys and 281 girls) with age between 7 and 8 years old were evaluated All of them were physically and intellectually normal. Results: Fifty-eight children (9.7 %) were identified as borderline DCD children and 21 children (3.5%) were identified as DCD. The prevalence rate of children with DCD was 4.81 % in 7 years old, and 2.44% in 8 years old. In the DCD group, the ratio between boys and girls was 1.2: I. In the testing items, girls' performances in the manual dexterity and balance were better than those of boys. However, in the ball skills, boys performed better than girls. In all testing items, 8 year-old children performed better than 7 year-old children. Conclusion: Based on the results, the prevalence of DCD children in 7 to 8 year-old children and the characteristics of motor performance of the 7 to 8 year-old children in Taiwan were identified. The results of this study may be used to compare with related studies in the future.
