For more than a decade, there has been a transition from disintegration and division to integration in the development of education and courses of psychological counseling and psychological therapy, in one’s research and the assistance to the students’ exploration, in the practice of counseling and psychological therapy and in the exploration with regards to the division and integration of “knowledge and practice,” “knowledge, sentiment and meaning,” “truth, goodness and beauty.” The main points in the realization of this integration is to manifest beauty by goodness and inspire truth by beauty through turning the life experience into a story, which is, in other words, narration, reflection and practice. Now, in theory, I take the doctrine of mind in Confucianism as the center of my psychology of “increasing benevolence,” complete with the inspiration from existentialism, hermeneutics, humanist psychology and critical psychology. The practice of teaching and helping people is “locally” confronting the “imperfect” individuals or groups along with their contexts, beginning through both narrative and practice, coordinating with one another, struggling for existential and intelligent manifestation which accomplishes both oneself and others. For more than a decade, we have gradually achieved some results as a bunch of kindred-spirited teachers and students and understood how teaching, helping and research should have been integrated. As for the way to integrate, I personally induce six tentative common principles: first, in face of the texts, it should be “gentlemen make friends through literature, and through friendship increase their benevolence;” second, in face of oneself, it should be “I, I speak, I feel, I think, therefore I am;” third, in face of others, it’s to correspond and counsel “you, you speak, you feel, you think, therefore you are” through the “I” in pursuit of “I think;” fourth, in face of the group, it’s “you, you speak; I, I speak; he, he speaks; speaking out how we feel, we think and we are;” fifth, in face of changes, it’s to pursue the dialectical, free, harmonized and conceptive progress; sixth, in face of research and publication, it’s to find a form appropriate of oneself and convey it expressively to share and communicate with others. This paper is to make a brief account about these six principles.
