《論語》全書中涉及女性的議題極少，僅五處，南子是《論語》唯一提到過有名字的女子。「子見南子」一事受到歷代學者各方的注解、詮釋或揣度，清代史學家趙翼也說過：「《論語》惟『子見南子』一章最不可解。」「子見南子」到底宜如何看待？本文欲藉由歷代學者對「子見南子」的觀看的整理，提供一個當代閱讀儒家經典的合宜態度之初步反省。

Women are mentioned only five times throughout Analects, while Nanzi is the only woman whose name is mentioned there. The incident of "Confucius Meeting Nanzi" has been commentated, interpreted or speculated by generations of scholars, while the historian Zhao Yi in the Qing Dynasty also said, "Confucius Meeting Nanzi' is the most obscure chapter in Analects." How exactly should we read "Confucius Meeting Nanzi?" This paper offers a preliminary reflection on how to read Confucian classics appropriately in contemporary days by sorting out the views about "Confucius Meeting Nanzi" that have been held by generations of scholars.
