馬水龍教授的音樂創作具有以傳統音樂為根本，藉由西方的作曲技巧，創作出含有台灣本土音樂色彩的特色。馬水龍教授畢生致力於保存本土文化，堅持音樂創作要有自己的傳統，才能發揚光大。因此他發表的許多膾炙人口的經典作品，都包含對土地、對傳統的深厚感情。於一九六五年所完成的鋼琴獨奏曲《台灣組曲》，可見馬水龍教授對於台灣民間音樂的喜愛及其影響。這首作品是一首台灣農村民俗慶典的寫實。本篇研究將分成兩大部分，第一部份主要為馬水龍教授的生平背景、音樂創作特色及作品概覽的簡略介紹，第二部份將以《台灣組曲》這首作品為例，依作品中〈廟宇〉、〈迎神〉、〈獅舞〉、〈元宵節〉四段，分別介紹討論馬水龍教授所使用到的台灣民間音樂及運用手法。

Taiwanese composer Ma Shui-Long's music uses the traditional folk as the fundamental elements. His composition employs Western techniques to create music containing Taiwanese elements and characteristics. Professor Ma dedicates his life to preserving Taiwan’s native culture, upholding his belief that great music can only come of unique tradition. Therefore, his compositions are a manifestation of his love and passion towards the land he loves.The solo piano work “Suite Taiwan” was completed in 1965. The work is filled with Ma’s love and passion towards Taiwanese folk music. It portrays celebrations of Taiwanese rural folk festivities. This paper is divided into two parts. The first part provides a general overview of Ma’s life, music and compositional style. The second part examines the aesthetic compositional approach and techniques using Taiwanese folk music in the four pieces contained in the “Suite Taiwan”: ˋTempleˊ , ˋWelcoming Godˊ , ˋLion Danceˊ , ˋLantern Festivalˊ .
