This paper discusses the phenomenon of ethical purity, namely, the completeorientation of the mind in an ethical direction and the absence of any element thatdetracts from this ethical orientation. It considers the way this phenomenon ispresented in Confucian thought, through ideas such as cheng 誠， xu 虛， and jing 靜.The paper then approaches the phenomenon through a discussion of both the moraltrials one goes through in life, and of the state of equanimity that accompanies thepurity of the mind. Finally, it concludes with a discussion of the nature of ethicalpurity, including the nature of mOl叫progress and the oneness of the mind.
