疼痛常見於骨科門診，這些病人都希望醫師盡快解決其症狀，引起疼痛原因包括身體和精神因素。扭傷、挫傷及骨折是骨科引起急性疼痛常見原因。此外，退化性疾病，代謝性疾病，免疫性疾病、腫瘤及感染，都是引起疼痛的原因。創傷引起的疼痛，包括頸部扭傷，腰部扭傷，手挫傷及腳踩扭傷。本文以針刺治療爲探討主題。一般頸部扭傷處理原則，給予止痛藥、物理治療及頸部固定，通常數天後得已解除症狀。手部挫傷及足踝扭傷病人，通常先用冰敷及止痛藥，二、三天以後再熱敷、物理治療及藥物治療，也是可以緩解疼痛。然而在創傷期間是否有方法可以更快速解除病人疼痛及增加他們生活品質，本文作者臨床經驗顯示針刺療法對創傷引起的急性疼痛可以擔任一個重要的角色。
