本研究尋找具有抗愛滋病毒性的中草藥，吾等先以抗老鼠血癌病毒試驗篩選出二組中草藥複方。本研究是以抗愛滋病毒試驗來檢測此二組中草藥複方及其組成份中各單方的抗愛滋病活性。其結果顯示此二組複方之抗愛滋病毒活性分別為100%及89~99%，並從其組成份中發現了白花蛇舌草、半枝蓮、龍葵、胡枝子、連翘、金鎖匙及女貞子等從未被發表具有抗愛滋病毒作用的中草藥。至於其醫學用途則有等將來的臨床試驗結果來判斷。

Although present cocktail therapy (highly active anti-retroviral therapy) can lower the HIV titer to undetectable level and reduce the mortality rate, it still can not cure HIV-infected patients. Moreover, there are some problems such as drug side effects, drug resistance etc. So it is highly urgent to search for other effective drugs. On the other hand, it is true that some Chinese herbal medicines have anti-viral activities. In order to find the Chinese herbal medicines that have anti-viral activities, we used the Anti-Ecotropic Murine Leukemia Virus Assay (Anti-EmLV Assay) to screen some Chinese herbal compositions first. And we found 2 compositions that have anti-EmLV activity. So we conducted an Anti-HIV Assay to check these 2 compositions and their single herbs. The results are as follows: 1) The anti-HIV activity of these 2 compositions is 100% and 89~99% respectively. 2) We found that Hedyotis diffusa, Scutellaria barbata, Solanum nigrum, Lespedeza cuneata, Forthysia suspensa, Aeginetia herb and Ligustrum barbata luciduin have good anti-HIV activity. Their medical use should be, judged by the future clinical trial.
