地圖，早期人類是爲了表示和了解生活區域內的空間關係；如今，不僅是區域性科學調查研究成果的表達方式之一，而且是許多學科用於分析研究、綜合評價、分析預報和規劃設計的重要資料。地圖之繪製，可實測成圖，或編纂成圖，甚至直接運用人造衛星的影像成圖；今日地圖的產生方式，已由傳統製圖邁向電腦輔助製圖或地圖資料庫的製圖方式。地圖之收藏，是圖書館之職責；地圖透過圖書館以提供民眾運用或研究，是推廣地圖教育知識的最佳途徑。

Map was used to expressing and interviewing the relationship of early human being's life space. Now it is not only a kind presentation of restrictive inspection science, but also important information of analytic study, combined estimation, prediction and operation for many aspects of science. There are different kinds of map drafting; by the way of field work, compilation and satellite image process. Nowaday mapping procedure trends to take advantage of computer assistant equipment or digital map data base from traditional methods.
