世界製圖先進國家莫不有統一圖式之頒布，俾利本國製圖事業之發展，因圖式是製圖作業之依據，亦是用圖者之指南。本文主要闡明圖式之基本概念，並就日本地圖中心發行之地形圖圖式與我現行大比例尺地圖（二萬五千分之一地形圖爲例）圖式作分析比較，且提出建議，提供我製圖改進之參考。

To develop the mapping enterprise, modern mapping countries make public with unique map symbol system which is fountain of mapping operations and guidance of map users. To express the elementary concept, we compare the topographic symbol of Japan Map Center with ours (scale 1:25,000), then give the suggestion to be the reference of improving technique.
