地形圖係應用相當廣泛的一般地圖，其成圖各國具有各自的特點，不同時期亦各有成效。本文主要係以五萬分之一地形圖圖說爲主軸，探討台灣地區大比例尺地形圖系列圖組演進之概廓；同時就地形圖整備中相關的基礎工作，即基本控制點測量及圖式頒行，在此歷程中之演變。冀由本文之研討，能對台灣地區在光復後（1945年～）之地表歷史痕跡圖籍線索有一初步概廓。

Topographic map is one type of mapping representation that is most commonly in use. The map produced by each country has its own unique features and different period of time has its own style of presentation. The paper is based on the interpretation of 1/50,000 topographic maps to discuss the layout on the evolution of a series of large scale maps for Taiwan, and the development of related basic map making techniques, i.e. Basic Control Points Surveying and Mapping Symbols. Hopefully, the discussion from this paper would provide a general concept about the map information clue of the historical track on the earth surface after Taiwan has been recovered (after 45 A.D.).
