英文摘要

OBJECTIVES: We reviewed our experience with 7 men with urinary incontinence due to an intrinsic sphincter deficiency who underwent a suburethral sling procedure between April 2005 and November 2006.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 7 men (mean age, 59 years) underwent the suburethral sling procedure. All patients had urodynamically confirmed urinary incontinence due to an intrinsic sphincter deficiency, including 4 with postprostatectomy incontinence, 2 with congenital neurological lesions, and 1 with traumatic urethral sphincter injury. The 22-item incontinence quality of life (I-QOL) uestionnaire and the Patient Global Impression of Severity (PGI-S) scale were used to assess the clinical results of the suburethral sling procedure.RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 10.6 (range, 3~22) months. The mean full-scale I-QOL score was 17.4 (range, 0~32) before surgical intervention and 50.4 (range, 8~100) after the suburethral sling procedure (p = 0.041). The mean PGI-S score was 3.6 (range, 3~4) before surgical intervention and 2.4 (range, 1 to 4) after the suburethral sling procedure (p = 0.047). Overall, after the sling procedure, 3 (43%) men reported that their urinary symptoms had a minimal impact on their lives, 1 (14%) reported a moderate impact, while 3 (43%) reported severe impacts.CONCLUSIONS: In males, a suburethral sling is a safe, efficient, non-mechanical, inexpensive surgical procedure after a prostatectomy for neurological urinary incontinence during short-term follow-up.
