This paper attempts to establish a link between geography and psychoanalysis by exploring the terrae incognitae which is embedded in the "secret chambers" of the public toilets and embodied in the "black box/dark continent" of our bodies and minds. The expedition project includes a psychoanalysis on the close(t) spaces of the public toilets and a topoanalysis on the abjection dynamics relating to the excretion processes. On the theoretical ground, we drew on a wide range of theories, including Young's ideas of lived space and situated embodiment, Wu's body-space conceptions in the geography of everyday life, Kristeva's theories of abjection and chora, Longhurst's hypotheses of close(t) space and fluid subjectivity, Pile's attempts to marriage psychoanalysis and geography, and Fusco's applications of ethnographical approach to the study of changing rooms. On the empirical ground, we conducted a spatial ethnography on the toileting public in the public toilets by observing assortment of public toilets in Taipei and by interviewing the designers, administrators, janitors, and users of the public toilets. In so doing, this article highlighted both the space-texts and the body-texts of the negotiation of subjectivity through the very process of abjection in the public toilets. In addition, during the process of research, we also identified the "missing texts" of the janitors who were considered to be neither subjects nor objects of the abjection.
