澎湖本島、中屯、白沙與西嶼地區侵蝕性的岩石濱臺異常發達,退潮後寬度可達3至5公里,然而空間分布上卻呈東北寬、西南窄,而內灣則發育相當寬闊的濱臺。在調查及分析濱臺型態、岩石強度、波浪能量和原始地形後發現,影響研究區濱臺發育最重要的因素是平緩的方山狀原始地形,尤其內灣區域更為明顯,所以澎湖地區的濱臺寬度遠較世界其他地區高。其次才是波浪能量與岩石強度的影響,而岩石強度愈低、波浪能量愈高,濱臺愈窄的關係,又以面迎東北季風的北部海岸最佳。在濱臺發育速率方面,由水下地形坡度變化特徵推測,現在的濱臺應該都是發育於海水面相對穩定的最近期,最快的濱臺平均發育速率可能接近每年0.5至1公尺。

英文摘要

Well developed shore platforms could reach 3 to 5 km at lowest tide fringe of Penghu, Jongtun, Baisha and Shiyu Islands. However, the those in the northeast and sheltered bay area are wider, and narrower in the southwest. According to previous studies, the wide shore platforms which developed along the northeastern coast and facing the open sea were strongly affected by the winter monsoon and its high wave energy. However, the wide shore platforms were also developed along the leeward coast within the bay that sheltered by these islands. According to our field observations of the shore platform morphology, rock strengths, initial landform, and the analysis of wave climate, the mesa-like initial landform was the primary control for the development of shore platform. Rock strengths and wave energy were the secondary controls, the mesa-like initial landform may be the primary control for the development of shore platform, especially in the bay area sheltered by islands. Hence, the rate of shore platform developed was very high reaching 0.5 to 1 m per year. Rock strengths and wave energy were the secondary controls, and the highest correlation coefficient between the controls and platform width was in the coast where facing the winter monsoon.
