英文摘要

Introduction:In recent years, the worldwide environment of nuclear medicine practice changed rapidly. With facing the rigorous insurance policy and the competition from other specialties, colleagues need to update the current status of nuclear medicine practice in Taiwan. Therefore, we took a survey together with the 2011 nuclear medicine physician training hospital accreditation regarding to the faculties, equipments, and the number of service in the past three years. Methods:The data were collected from 39 hospitals applied for 2011 training hospital accreditation. The cutoff date for faculties and equipment survey was on Sep.30,2011. The data for number of services were collected between Jan.2008 and Dec.2010. the number of faculties included attending physicians, residents, radiological and medical technologists, and pharmacists. The number of equipments included SPECT (both SPECT and SPECT/CT),PET (both PET and PET/CT),radioiodine treatment wards and cycltrons. The data for number of services included scintigraphic studies and radioimmunoassays. Scintigraphic studies were further classified into 8 categories and radioimmunoassays were further classified into 4 categories, in ordr to show the workload trends between 2008 and 2010. Results: There are 171 board certified nuclear medicine physicians, 47 residents in Taiwan, as well as 93 SPECT and SPECT/CT, 35 PET and PET/CT, 34 raioiodine treatment wards and 10 cyclotrons in 39 enrolled hospitals. In the past three years, the average number of scintigraphic study was 243,025 cases/year. Among scintigraphic studies, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and inflammation-oncology (including FDG PET) studies were the leading three categories of number of service. Thirty of the 39 hospitals provided radioimmunoassay service. The average number of radioimmunoassay service was 2,997,270 tests/year. The most frequent tests were endocrinologic items, followed by oncologic ones. During 2008-2010 , the numbers of both scintigraphic studiess and radioimmunoassays were at a steady state. Discussion and Conclusion: The limitations of the census report included: [1] the source of the data was from 39 hosnitals ;[2] the number of FDG PET service was not collected as a separate item; [3] the cyclotron-produced preclinical radiopharmaceuticals were not included. We plan to perform a regular nationwide survey in the future with adding abovementioned missing items in the current survey. The results of the regular census report will be published in this society official journal in order to allow all colleagues, research institutes, and associate factories to real time keep up the status of nuclear medicine practice in Taiwan.
