“Post-Hegelian Kantianism” is an important construct in Ricoeur’s thought, which provides the link between his philosophical and religious discussions. This essay examines his writings from the 1960s–70s in order to analyze Ricoeur’s methodology and concerns in constructing this concept. We find that it points to an important religious theme, which we may describe as “a self witnessing to the divine.” It is influential throughout the entire Ricoeurian thought system.
