This study explores the relationships among social environment (life stress), individual psychological factors (self-control), and Internet addiction among senior high school students. We explore the prevalence of Internet addiction among junior high school students from different backgrounds, and divide high-risk students into groups to explore differences. The research samples were 2,056 junior high students in Hsinchu City. The research results are described as follows: (1) Signifi cant differences were found in the variables of gender and online activity for Internet addiction; (2) The high-risk Internet addiction tendency group was divided into 4 categories, including “the high risk of boys for online games,” “the high risk of girls for chatting, games, and entertainment,” “the high risk of MSN messages,” and “the high risk of short-term online games”; (3) No interaction effect between life stress and self-control was found in the Internet addiction of junior high school students, but life stress and self-control in Internet addiction were found to exist; (4) All life stress variables explained 12.46% of Internet addiction; (5) All self-control variables explained 19.73% of Internet addiction; and (6) Gender, life stress, and self-control could be effectively used to predict 38.1% of Internet addiction. Self-control had a partial relationship to gender, life stress, and Internet addiction.
