本論文主要探討1920-30年代流行於歐美的裝飾藝術風格，在日治中期台灣海報設計的表現以及裝飾藝術在台灣殖民社會中的發展情形。本文首先探討西方裝飾藝術歷史源由，歸納出當時西方裝飾藝術海報的主要風格特徵，其次探討日本現代設計的形成以及裝飾藝術在日本的發展的狀況，再進一步從日治時期台灣海報作品與文獻資料進行調查，探討裝飾藝術在台灣殖民社會的發展背景，以及日治中期台灣裝飾藝術海報設計的風格特色。本研究發現，台灣裝飾藝術海報兼具有西方裝飾藝術風格的呈現、日本文化元素的應用、台灣本土語彙的融合等多元性之視覺文化。結論與建議提出，日治中期台灣裝飾藝術的設計思潮因素有三：（一）、日本對台殖民方針與國家現代化政策主導下，促使了台灣裝飾藝術的快速發展。（二）、台灣學習西方文化後的裝飾藝術，呈現出在地文化融合與在地語彙運用的視覺風格。（三）、日本的西方文明學習經驗帶入殖民地台灣，建立了台灣裝飾藝術流行的接觸途徑。本研究希望對於台灣設計史的建構有所幫助。

This paper aims at examining how the Art Deco style popular among the Euro-American countries in the 1920s influenced poster design in Taiwan, along with the Art Deco development in such a colonial Taiwanese society. First, the western Art Deco would be discussed in line with its origin in order to illustrate the main characteristics of the western Art Deco poster. Then, both the development of the Japanese modern design and its Art Deco would be explored. Meanwhile, the posters of this period and the relevant literature would be investigated as well in order to probe the colonial social background along with the characteristics of the Taiwanese Art Deco poster design. The study discovers that the Taiwanese Art Deco posters present a multicultural visual mixture that covers western Art Deco styles, Japanese cultural elements, and the Taiwanese local colors. The conclusion and suggestion of the study would be made to propose three factors that determine the Taiwanese Art Deco design in the middle period of Japanese rule (1) both the colonial policies and the national modernization implemented by the Japanese government greatly galvanized the Taiwanese Art Deco to develop and prosper; (2) the Taiwanese apprenticeship of the western Art Deco reflects a hybrid visual style consisting of both local color and local vocabulary; and (3) the Japanese apprenticeship of the western civilization brought to the colonial Taiwan society provided a medium for Taiwan to get access to Art Deco. The researcher wishes to help construct a design history of Taiwan.
